Veneers in Madison, AL

When you see yourself in a photo, do you only notice the chipped tooth or gap you've always felt self-conscious about? Dental veneers at Talbert Family Dentistry can address the aesthetic issues that bother you and help you achieve a naturally beautiful smile.

How Dental Veneers Work

Dental veneers are super-thin shells of high-quality ceramic custom-crafted to cover the front surface of your teeth. Bonded directly to the tooth to cover what’s beneath, a veneer creates a new surface that's perfectly shaped, sized, and colored to complement your facial features. The material mimics tooth enamel’s light-reflecting properties, for a smile that looks completely natural.

We commonly use veneers to address the following cosmetic issues:

  • Severe discoloration that doesn't respond to whitening
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Cracked teeth with visible fracture lines
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Irregularly shaped or undersized teeth
  • Minor alignment issues
  • Worn or aged teeth

The Process for Getting Veneers

Before recommending veneers, Dr. Talbert performs a thorough exam to determine the health of your teeth and gums. If he finds any issues, he will address them first to create a healthy foundation for your restorations and to protect your investment. Then, your smile transformation takes place with the following steps:

  • In-House Photo Studio — Your first stop is a visit to our in-house photo studio. We capture detailed images from multiple angles, which gives us a baseline for comparison.
  • Digital Smile Design   Next, using advanced digital smile design software, Dr. Talbert creates a detailed treatment plan that shows you exactly how your new smile will look.
  • 3D Mockups and Try-Ins — Before we alter your teeth, Dr. Talbert creates 3D printed mockups that you can try in your mouth. You deserve to be thrilled with the results, and this step allows you to see and feel your new smile before you commit to treatment.
  • Tooth Preparation and Impressions —  Dr. Talbert prepares your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the front surfaces. We then take accurate, mess-free digital impressions that allow us to create veneers that fit perfectly and blend beautifully with your smile.
  • Final Placement — When we receive your final veneers from our trusted dental lab, Dr. Talbert carefully fits them and places them on your teeth using long-lasting cement. The final step is post-treatment photos to document your dramatic smile transformation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your new veneers are designed to be strong and durable, lasting 15 to 20 years with proper care. However, because they are super-thin, they are susceptible to breakage or cracking under excessive force. Daily care and attention for your veneers will help protect your investment and maintain your beautiful smile for years to come.

Veneer Care in Four Steps

At Talbert Family Dentistry, we recommend following these four steps to protect your investment:

  1. Excellent Oral Hygiene — Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste and soft-bristled toothbrush, and floss once to remove plaque and bacteria. While veneers don't decay, the underlying tooth structure can still develop cavities.
  2. Regular Professional Cleanings — Schedule routine cleanings and checkups every six months. Your hygienist will use specialized techniques to clean your veneers safely while monitoring the health of your underlying teeth and gums.
  3. Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods — Don't chew on ice, hard candies, or non-food items like pen caps. Avoid using your teeth as tools to open packages or crack nuts.
  4. Wear a Nightguard — If you grind or clench your teeth at night, Dr. Talbert may recommend a custom night guard to protect your veneers from excessive force.
